WRIT080 - Academic Writing and Critical Thinking
Course Description
In this course, you'll further refine your writing, research and critical thinking skills. Selected readings and assignments will guide you through the writing process, exploring rhetorical principles like voice and purpose. You'll learn to assess research and academic arguments, adhering to American Psychological Association (APA) conventions in formatting and citation.
Course Outline
Starting with a clear objective, each assignment builds on the last, cultivating your ability to utilize sources effectively in crafting your own viewpoints. From crafting summary sentences to composing argumentative essays, each task serves as a stepping stone toward mastery. Throughout, various RRU associate faculty will support you, offering feedback and guidance on your writing.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
- Identify individual challenges to effective writing
- Present ideas and arguments effectively
- Substantiate claims with evidence
- Cite sources correctly following APA guidelines
- Correctly apply APA style to manuscripts
Notes
Please note that this is a rigorous academic writing course, and participants will require advanced English comprehension and writing skills to ensure successful completion. Participants should expect to set aside a minimum of 15-20 hours each week to focus on assignments. Final course grades will be submitted and approved within 10 business days from the course end date.
