Improve your English language proficiency and gain the skills and strategies you need to succeed at university in Canada. English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is a one-semester intensive English program focused on helping students improve their English language, academic, and critical thinking skills.

  • Delivered on campus in a full-time, 12-week format
  • 25 hours per week of classroom instruction
  • Offered 3 times per year (September, January, April)
  • Upper-intermediate level of English

Registration Details

Placement is determined by the English language proficiency score report that you submit when you apply to your RRU degree program of choice.

English for Academic Purposes IELTS Academic 5.5 (no band less than 5.0)
TOEFL iBT 60 (min 12 Reading, min 20 Writing, min 11 Listening, min 17 Speaking)
DET 90 (no band less than 85)

Some courses in English for Academic Purposes are shared with the GLLC’s Global English programs, with the aim of bringing a more diverse range of perspectives into the classroom.

How to Apply

If you have chosen to meet the English language requirement for a degree program at Royal Roads University by completing EAP and UAP, you will be enrolled in the International Pathway Program by the Admissions office once you have been conditionally admitted to your academic program. If you have questions regarding the admission process for a degree program at Royal Roads, please contact International Admissions. If you have not yet applied for a credit program through RRU but would like to improve your  English skills, consider one of our Global English options.

*Royal Roads ancillary fees apply to students in International Pathway Programs. These fees, which help fund a range of services that support learning and the student experience, are in addition to tuition. Fees are subject to change without notice and are reviewed annually.
