TFAC050 - Instructional Skills Workshop
Course Description
Embark on a three-day immersive journey dedicated to enhancing your teaching expertise for face-to-face learning. This participatory workshop celebrates your existing instructional techniques while encouraging you to explore new methods. Through interactive sessions, you'll learn and apply effective teaching skills, fostering an active and engaging learning atmosphere. Expect to participate in innovative activities, facilitate mini-lessons and engage in peer feedback sessions to refine your teaching approach.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of the Instructional Skills Workshop, you will be able to:
- Use learning outcomes (including expressive outcomes) to inform learners of expectations
- Write useful, practical mini-lesson plans
- Facilitate participatory mini-lessons
- Use common instructional media and resources competently
- Use basic techniques to assess learning from a lesson
- Give and receive appreciative feedback
- Plan to apply and reinforce learning outside the ISW learning setting
- Recognize key principles of Indigenization
- Consider the diverse learning needs of today's students
- Use an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens to inform instructional practices around diverse cultural worldviews, values, and perspectives
Notes
- Each of the three days is an intensive seven-hour day. You must attend all three days in their entirety to complete the workshop. You should also expect to spend some time for preparation prior to each day.
- Please note that our ISW includes a self-paced online learning module of preparatory learning (approx. 5 hours) that all participants are expected to complete before Day One.
