Course Description

Welcome to a journey toward Decolonization and the Naturalization of Indigenous worldviews in our work and in our life.  Whether this is your first incursion in a course like this one or whether you have been Indigenizing your work, this course will offer some insights and ideas relevant to the work in which you engage as a curriculum developer, as an instructor, as a researcher or in any other role.

This course is designed to engage learners in actions proposed by the Report from The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2015).  We will work individually and collaboratively to redesign and co-construct new approaches to work in Indigenous contexts and with Indigenous communities.

Learner Outcomes

  • Expand our knowledge and understanding of Indigenous epistemologies and pedagogies to ‘naturalize’ (Littlebear) their presence in educational contexts
  • Apply Principles of Reciprocity, Relevance, Relationships, and Respect in our immediate teaching and learning contexts (i.e., the classroom)
  • Develop purposefulness when designing courses, pedagogical approaches, and assessments that will consider Indigenous learners
  • Work individually and collaboratively to redesign and co-construct new approaches to working with Indigenous contexts and communities
  • Engage in collaborative enquiry to propose new ideas to decolonize and indigenize our contexts and work
