Course Description
Facilitating Learning Online - Synchronous focuses on developing your facilitation skills for synchronous online learning. You will learn best practice strategies to plan for, facilitate, and follow up after synchronous online (virtual) learning events.
FLO Synchronous will provide you with opportunities to see and learn from examples of synchronous online facilitation and, if desired, practice synchronous online facilitation skills in a safe environment. This course is designed for individuals who would like to increase their facilitation skills within a virtual online environment such as Zoom or Collaborate Ultra.
Course Outline
In this course, you will:
- Engage with the course via one of two different tracks: Reviewing Participant or Practicing Facilitator. This flexibility allows you to choose the learning path that best suits your needs.
- The Reviewing Participant track focuses on discussing best practice concepts, reviewing examples of synchronous online facilitation, and providing feedback.
- The Practicing Facilitator track focuses on planning for and facilitating a short synchronous online event and receiving feedback.
- Participate in course activities requiring 6-8 hours per week for three weeks. Those with no prior online teaching and learning experience may need to invest more time.
- Attend synchronous sessions (webinars) scheduled once a week, with a requirement to attend at least two of the three sessions to meet course requirements. Additionally, participate in synchronous sessions facilitated by some participants during the last week of the course.

- Apply effective design strategies to plan for synchronous online sessions
- Lead synchronous online sessions using appropriate facilitation skills
- Use a web-based platform at a basic level to facilitate synchronous online sessions
- Use reflection and feedback gathering to evaluate synchronous online sessions
