Course Description

Facilitating Learning Online - Synchronous course focuses on developing facilitation skills for synchronous online learning. You will learn best practice strategies to plan for, facilitate, and follow up after synchronous online (virtual) learning events.

FLO Synchronous will provide you with opportunities to see and learn from examples of synchronous online facilitation and, if desired, practice synchronous online facilitation skills in a safe environment. This course is designed individuals who would like to increase their facilitation skills within a virtual online environment such as Zoom or Collaborate Ultra.

Course Outline

Participants have the option to engage with this course via one of two different "tracks": Reviewing Participant or Practicing Facilitator. This flexibility allows you to choose what kind of learning is best for you at this time. The Reviewing Participant track is focused on discussing best practice concepts, reviewing examples of synchronous online facilitation, and providing feedback.

The Practicing Facilitator track is focused on planning for and facilitating a short synchronous online event and receiving feedback. Time requirement: Participants should expect to spend 6-8 hours for course activities during each of the three weeks. Those with no prior online teaching and learning experiences can expect to invest more time. Continuous, active participation is necessary to make this course successful for everyone.

Synchronous sessions (webinars) are scheduled once a week. Participants must attend at least two of the three of these to meet course requirements. In addition, there will be synchronous sessions facilitated by some participants during the last week of the course.
