Course Description

This course will introduce individuals, government representatives, NGOs and businesses to traditional Coast Salish social and governance protocols with practical knowledge to help foster more respectful working relationships with local First Nations communities, groups and individuals. You will learn where and how to initiate dialogue, develop trust and a common approach to a respectful future.

 

Course Outline

  • Making connections with First Nations communities: knowing where and how to initiate dialogue

  • Community planning and development: developing trust and a common approach for working toward a common future

  • Doing business with First Nations: protocols and customs

  • Special events: how and when to respectfully engage First Nations in community events and special occasions

 

Learner Outcomes

Participants will gain a clearer understanding of Coast Salish social and governance protocols, enabling them to work more respectfully and confidently with First Nations communities, groups and individuals.
