Course Description

Aspiring leaders in early childhood will gain practical knowledge and skills in governance models, regulatory compliance, financial management, and human resource leadership, all grounded in current provincial policy and best practices. Through interactive activities, case studies, and reflective exercises, learners will develop competence in overseeing centre operations, upholding professional standards, and fostering inclusive, high-quality learning environments for children and families.

Course Outline

  • Evaluate childcare governance models, including private, not-for-profit, and board-run centres
  • Roles and responsibilities of provincial regulatory bodies and licensing authorities
  • Identify key administrative and operational duties of childcare leaders
  • Develop an understanding of human resource management: hiring, onboarding, and professional development
  • Ensure compliance with BC labour laws, human rights, and WorkSafeBC requirements
  • Budgeting, funding agreements, and financial sustainability in childcare settings
  • Policy and procedure development and implementation
  • Design a comprehensive onboarding plan for new staff
