Whether you are just getting started with your job search or looking to advance your career, this program will help you gain the competencies you need to thrive in our rapidly changing world. You will strengthen your employability and advancement potential through the development of in-demand interpersonal skills needed for the future of work.
The program uses an experiential learning model that allows students to gain skills and knowledge through group work, learning exchanges and simulation activities. The program is enriched by field studies and guest speakers from a variety of backgrounds who can offer their unique perspectives and share stories of their professional experiences.
This full-time non-credit Professional and Continuing Studies program is offered through the Global Learning and Language Centre at Royal Roads University. In-person attendance is required.
Continue your learning! Upon successful completion of the Global Workforce Skills, extend your studies by entering a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma program at RRU if you meet the program-specific admission requirements.
The 1-Year Certificate in Global Workforce Skills consists of 3 required modules:
Intercultural Competence in the Workplace
Teamwork and Collaboration
Service Orientation Skills
Each module consists of approximately 200 course hours over 14 weeks. Students will advance their competencies and skills by completing 2 core on-campus courses alongside 1 online course focused on career development. Throughout each module, students will complete an e-portfolio to highlight their cumulative learning.
There are three intakes per year: September, January, and April. Students can begin the program in any module. Contact us if you are interested in taking one or more modules without enrolling in the certificate program.
High school completion
2 years of full-time professional work experience (or educational equivalent)
Minimum English language proficiency of Academic IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 105, or TOEFL iBT 79.
This program is designed for students who are proficient in English. If you do not meet the English language requirements, explore the Applied English Program options offered through the Global Learning and Language Centre. Successful completion of Level 3 of a GLLC language program satisfies the English language requirement for admission to Global Workforce Skills. Contact us if you have questions about this or other pathway options.
Application Fee: $150 (waived for applications received before March 31, 2023)
Program Tuition: $5,200 CAD per module (each module = 14 weeks)
Students are required to pay a one-time application fee of $150 and a $550 deposit (per module) to receive a Letter of Acceptance for the duration of the program. The balance owing for each term is due at least 28 calendar days prior to the start of each module.

1. Interpersonal Skills for the Workplace (72 hours – classroom)
2. Leading Across Cultures (72 hours – classroom)
3. Strategies for Personal and Career Success (40 hours – online)
4. Final Assessment - online learning portfolio (16 hours - online)
In this module, you will develop and strengthen teamwork skills required for effective workplace collaboration. There are 4 required courses in this module:
1. Teamwork and Team Building in the Workplace (72 hours – classroom)
2. Leading Projects and Change (72 hours – classroom)
3. Growth Mindset for Professional Success (40 hours - online)
4. Final assessment - online learning portfolio (16 hours – online)
In this module, you will examine service orientation skills from multiple perspectives: the client, team member, and supervisor. You will become knowledgeable in the skills and techniques required to provide outstanding customer service and learn how to develop these skills in your team. There are 4 required courses in this module:
1. Foundations of Customer Service Excellence (72 hours – classroom)
2. Leadership Skills for Customer Service Supervisors (72 hours – classroom)
3. Job Search Skills and Strategies (40 hours – online)
4. Final assessment - online learning portfolio (16 hours – online)
