TFAC050 - Instructional Skills Workshop
Course Description
The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is a three-day face-to-face course focused on developing and reinvigorating teaching skills for face-to-face learning. ISW is a participatory workshop that affirms the instructional techniques you already do well, while encouraging you to take risks and try more.
You will learn and practice effective teaching skills to create an active and engaging learning environment for your students. You will see innovative activities modeled by facilitators and other participants. You will facilitate three ten-minute “mini-lessons”, give and receive peer feedback, and learn from others’ examples.
Please note that our ISW includes a self-paced online learning module of preparatory learning (approx. 5 hours) that all participants are expected to complete before Day 1.
Learner Outcomes
- Give and receive effective, appreciative feedback to improve each other’s teaching
- Develop lesson plans that support and guide the use of participatory instructional strategies and techniques
- Effectively use a variety of instructional strategies and techniques
- Facilitate participatory learning experiences
- Understand adult learning preferences and diversity
- Incorporate elements of the RRU Learning and Teaching model or other organizational or institutional teaching and learning frameworks into teaching practice
- Engage in reflective practice
Notes
Time requirement: Each of the three days is an intensive seven-hour day. Participants must attend all three days in their entirety to complete the workshop. Participants should also expect to spend some time for preparation prior to each day.
