Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find answers to some of our frequently asked questions about our academic preparatory courses. You can also visit our General FAQ page if you have additional questions.

I have been conditionally admitted to a for-credit certificate, diploma or degree program at RRU, and I am required to complete one or more academic preparatory courses to meet my condition(s). How do I register?

Select the course from our list of academic preparation courses

  • To register for your selected course, please make a student account in the PCS Student Portal
  • Select a course that ends a minimum of 3 weeks prior to your program start date (see details below). Grades must be received and processed by Admissions no later than the condition deadline identified on your offer letter.
How much weekly effort is required for academic prep courses (AWCT/FAF/MAF/POA)?

Academic Writing and Critical Thinking (AWCT) will require 15-20 hours of student effort each week

The Accounting preparation courses (FAF/MAF/POA) will require about 15 hours of student effort each week

What course offering start date should I register for if the course is required to meet an admissions condition?

We strongly suggest that you select a course that ends at least 3 weeks prior to your program start date, as it may take up to 10 business days after the course end date for final grades to become available. Admissions will need to receive final grades by the assigned condition deadline on your offer letter.

What if there are no more course offerings that end at least 3 weeks prior to my for-credit program?

Admission conditions must be cleared no later than the deadline indicated on your offer letter. If there are no courses available that end at least 3 weeks prior to the start date of your program, you will be required to select a later program start date when accepting your offer of admission. If you have already accepted your offer, you will have the option of deferring your admission to future start date, allowing you time to meet your conditions.

I am considering applying for, or have just applied to a certificate, diploma, or degree program at RRU, and have already taken one or more of the 4 courses listed above. Do I need to inform Admissions?

It is important for the Admissions Office to know that you are registered (or have already completed) one of the potentially required courses for admission as soon as possible so that this is taken into consideration when determining what documents or information you will need to submit as part of your application.

Please either upload a copy of your Statement of Grade Report in GO.RRU (if the document requirement is available) or email your registration document to admissions@royalroads.ca so that we can adjust your record accordingly.

How do I clear my condition(s) with Admissions after I have completed the required course(s)?

The process varies slightly depending on your student status.

If you are a domestic (Canadian or PR) student with an active admission condition for a for-credit program, you will need to upload a copy of your Statement of Grade Report in GO.RRU if the document requirement is available or email the letter to admissions@royalroads.ca.

If you are an international student with an active admission condition for a for-credit program, your grades will be sent automatically to Admissions.

Am I able to view my final grade(s)?

You can access your grades by logging into the PCS Student Portal

  • Click My Enrollment History from the left hand menu options.
  • Click the Completed tab.
  • From here you can review your final grade(s) and more

Can I get a copy of my course completion letter that includes the grade?

To download or print a Statement of Grade for the courses you have completed, log into the PCS Student Portal

  • Click My Enrollment History from the left hand menu options.
  • Click the Completed tab.
  • Click Print from the Actions and Status column
  • Select "Statement of Grade" from the drop-down menu options.
  • Click Print . A PDF document will download for you to save or print for your records.
I didn’t meet the minimum grade required for my admission condition and I do not have time to retake the course. What are my options?

In the event that Admissions receives a final grade that does not meet the condition requirements, you will have the option of either deferring your admission to the next available intake to allow yourself time to retake the required course, or you will have the option of cancelling your admission. We recommend that you contact admissions@royalroads.ca to discuss your options in more detail.

If I don’t get the minimum grade required for my admission condition, how can I increase my grade?

If you do not achieve the required grade, you must retake the course. The fee for a retaken course is 20% less than the first attempt.
