Mental Health First Aid - SYNCHRONOUS

Just like in physical first aid (i.e. CPR), the mental health first aid is given until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis is resolved. This is a basic introductory course aimed at increasing mental health literacy, decreasing the stigma associated with this topic and building the confidence of participants to be able to support people with mental health problems. The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Basic course is a program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Mindfulness in Practice - SYNCHRONOUS

Mindfulness is much more than a recent trend; it is a way of being. The careful observation of thoughts, emotions, and sensations is part of a life-long journey to become more accepting, less judgmental, and kinder to oneself and others. Held mostly in silence, participants in this two-day core course will immerse themselves in the power and practice of being present through guided formal mindfulness meditation. Academic Writing and Critical Thinking - ONLINE

This course is designed to help learners continue to hone their writing, research and critical thinking skills. Through a series of selected readings and assignments, learners will develop a working understanding of the writing process, the rhetorical principles of voice and purpose that guide what and how one writes, and the basics of assessing research and academic argument. All assignments will be formatted and cited using APA conventions. Learners will receive on-going support on all assignments, including comments and guidance on revisions and drafts. Learn to work with team members to peer review assignments. This course is instructed by various RRU associate faculty.
