Successful Team Based Learning - ONLINE

Successful Team Based Learning is a 4-week online course that is focused on developing skills for facilitating and supporting team based learning in a variety of learning contexts. Over the course of four weeks, you will learn about the role of team based learning in the higher-education context, with specific focus on team building skills and assessment of team process. You will explore topics related to designing and assessing effective team based learning. Learning activities include group discussions, teamwork, design activities, and more. The important thing to note is this course provides you the opportunity to take on the student perspective within a team based learning environment. You will also learn about strategies for assessing team based learning that you can apply to your real world practice.

Please be advised this course is not based on the Team-Based Learning® method which follows a very specific pedagogical strategy that includes a list of steps. This course is more of a general introduction to successful team based learning and how to design and assess to enable and support this.

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Identify key elements necessary for successful, high-functioning, and collaborative teams;
  • Apply effective team building skills;
  • Design learning activities that facilitate and support team based learning;
  • Apply tools and techniques to effectively assess team-based learning; and
  • Articulate substantive and appreciative feedback to improve a team assignment.
