Course Description

In this workshop, you will design and evaluate team-based learning activities using the ADDIE framework. Using your own professional context as anchor, you will start by considering when team-based activities are the right approach to add value in learning design, whether for educational or professional contexts.  Throughout the course, you will apply practical strategies for assessing team-based activities within your own specific settings.

Course Outline

Over the course of four weeks, you will conduct participant analyses, write measurable learning outcomes using Bloom’s taxonomy, select appropriate activity structures, apply inclusive design principles, and plan for evaluation. The five phases of ADDIE are used to guide the development of a structured, evidence-informed design.

You will leave the course with a comprehensive activity design ready for implementation in your professional context.

Learner Outcomes

  • Explain why team-based approaches are appropriate for specific learning and performance contexts and distinguish situations where team-based activities add value over individual activities.
  • Analyze organizational problems and participant needs to identify clear goals, required knowledge and skills, and appropriate conditions for a team-based activity.
  • Design measurable learning objectives, inclusive activity structures, and facilitation strategies aligned to participant needs and organizational context.
  • Produce a complete ADDIE design document incorporating analysis, design rationale, fully developed facilitation materials and participant resources, and an implementation and evaluation plan that specifies success criteria and how results would inform future iterations.
  • Apply a structured feedback or self-reflection to peer design and integrate received feedback into iterative design improvements.

Notes

Expect to spend approximately 6–8 hours per week on the course. Active participation and engagement with course content and peers are essential for success. Two synchronous sessions are offered and recorded for those who cannot attend. Attendance is not mandatory but is strongly encouraged to support connection and understanding of the course approach.
