Pedagogical Values Series - ONLINE

The Pedagogical Values Series is an ongoing series of short sessions exploring the pedagogical values that form the foundation of the RRU Learning, Teaching, and Research Model (LTRM), namely: applied and authentic, caring and community-based, and transformational. Each 1-hour micro-session will feature a faculty member sharing about a pedagogical value that guides teaching practices. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss, reflect, and share back during a Q&A segment. The topic of each session is unique and sessions are designed to stand-alone, so participants can choose to attend all sessions or individual sessions. These micro-sessions will be delivered on-campus with the possibility of livestreaming for off-campus participants.

September 30, 2020 Session: Flexible & Supportive Teaching

The fifth values-based micro-session will be focused on the Care and Community-Based arc of the LTRM. The theme for the session is “Flexible & Supportive Teaching”. In the session, Dr. Sophia Palahicky, associate faculty in the School of Education & Technology (SET), will share her reflections on ways she has lived the values of care and community in her teaching through a supportive and flexible approach. In particular, Sophia will use a Photovoice activity to allow participants to reflect on how they can apply flexible and supportive approaches in their teaching practice. A discussion and Q&A session will follow the formal presentation.

Faculty Collaborator: Dr. Sophia Palahicky (SET)

By the end of the session, you should be able to:
