Mental Health First Aid - SYNCHRONOUS

Just like in physical first aid (i.e. CPR), the mental health first aid is given until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis is resolved. This is a basic introductory course aimed at increasing mental health literacy, decreasing the stigma associated with this topic and building the confidence of participants to be able to support people with mental health problems. The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Basic course is a program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Topics Covered:

The MHFA Basic course addresses the following four most common mental health disorders including signs and symptoms, and crisis first aid for specific situations.

  • Substance- Related Disorders
  • Mood-Related Disorders
  • Anxiety and Trauma-Related Disorders
  • Psychotic Disorders

Learning Outcomes:

  • Decrease the stigma associated with mental health problems
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of the most common mental health problems
  • Increase confidence of participants in providing help to others
  • Increase compassion for individuals struggling with mental health problems
  • Create a healthy psychological environment for employees
