Ethics and the Coaching Profession - ONLINE

This nine-week online course explores the current ethical competencies and considerations in the field of coaching and the application of these through the lens of the required standards of conduct in this profession. Over 9 weeks, students will examine the conduct of executive coaches within a series of morally problematic situations. This course also examines coaching within the contexts of public safety and public trust, privacy and confidentiality, honesty or deception, informed consent, objectivity, and conflicts of interest.

Masterful ethical conduct results from a deep understanding of the considerations that relate to appropriate human behavior in the context of coaching, culture, and beyond.  In this course, you will explore the ethical body of knowledge related to coaching and will explore best practices in addressing morally problematic situations involving individual and organizational trust and safety.

Through readings, discussions and assignments you will build an understanding of ethical conduct that will support effective coaching in an organizational context and beyond.  Each of the unit activities will be based on readings and case studies for that knowledge area.  The readings represent the context from which students will engage in discussion and debate.

  • Module 3: Creating the Shared Standard: Client Services Agreement
  • Module 4: Ethical Considerations in Systems Culture and Context
  • Module 5: Review Boards definitions – Breaches and Reparations
  • Module 6: Integration

Approximately 10-15 hours per week

Webinars: While most of this course Is delivered asynchronously, there will be 90-minute synchronous sessions held weekly.  Dates TBD.
